The training of our sense organs is necessary to support and enhance our academic performance. Bal-A-Vis-X aids the training of sight, hearing, coordination and the working together of eyes/ears/movement with the vestibular system. It brings excellent results in the speed of reading, writing, concentration, memory, self-control, spelling.

Brain Gym® brings similar results as it supports the smooth cooperation between the senses, the assimilation and integration of reflexes and helps in the cases of hyperactivity. Used in private sessions it has a much greater spectrum of things it can support an individual with, than only academics.

Special exercises for those reflexes that influence balance are also used.

New research on over 3000 students at a group of High Schools in Aachen, Germany and all age groups confirms that students that presented basic lacks on balance tests and those that generally had poor balance were those that also had considerably lower grades.

Dr Hoffmann commented on the findings: “the fact that many students have poor balance is bad news. The good news is that balance can be trained”.

A human being can in fact learn only that he can perceive through his sense organs. Imbalances on those organs (eyes, ears, vestibular balance system) greatly affect the learning process. From those senses, that of balance is the one most underrated, explains professor Dr Eckhard Hoffmann from Aachen High Schools. “Our balance system is the one that informs us where we are in space and how to move. Successful learning and the sense of balance are closely related” says Hoffmann. Both processes depend on the assimilation of imprints that arrive from different sources and reach us parallel from all our senses.

The recognition of the negative effects that a non well functioning balance system can have are according to the vice dean of the research “Augenoptik/Augenoptik und Hoerakustik” of vital importance if we want to give children the chance to assimilate the material taught without any limitations.

“Suitable measures can help children that struggle reduce the negative effects: this changes depending on the medical diagnosis and results in different treatments, therapies, special courses or hearing aids, different sitting arrangement in the classroom or supportive educational classes…Timely diagnosis and preventive measures are important foundations for the development and growth of these children and youths. This support helps the students have greater chances of succeeding in the current educational system”.

The “Schnecke – hygiene of learning needs” programme started in the middle of 2007: 3338 students from ten Hesse schools went through various tests that had to do with vision, hearing and balance. They answered written questions on their hearing and visual habits and submitted to additional measurements that had to do with their hearing in the school class. Further measurements were done in 2008 and already 2000 students have completed all the tests.

The results of the balance tests unveiled big lacks in many of the students of the various schools.

If we study their whole academic carrier so far, the students that had bad balance are those with the lowest grades in math and German and partly in sports. The mean of those grade difference can reach 0,7 and this is enough to determine if a child goes to University or not, according to the German educational system.

… “We have developed a special programme to work on balance on different levels” says Dr Hoffmann. “The effectiveness of the programme on the students’ performance will be proven by future research programme so as they can be given effective support in their learning path and in the development of a good balance”.
